Hey everyone! @ali_olfat here doing an @eclectic_shotz takeover. A little bit about me, I'm originally from San Francisco and about a year ago, I quit my job as a software engineer to start traveling. It wasn't until the last 4 months where my photography really started to pick up. I'm currently in Bali planning out my next travel destinations, hopefully, a trip back to Vietnam to see Ha Long Bay again!
I have recorded the “how does it feel to be 25?” Q as the top most asked question over the course of the last few hours. Realistically its not like there is a magic switch that alters your outlook on life. Truth be told its the day after that hits you hard. You spend 364 days of your life navigating your way through your and other lives until the ‘big day’ arrives. In fast motion you are the centre of attention. The day generally consists of an onslaught of messages and in this new age of social media, the addition of the Facebook/ Insta posts and Stories… all so incredible to look at and read..
Hosting an event comes with the additional added stress of splitting yourself up into 100 versions of yourself in an attempt to give everyone equal attention. This is already an impossible ‘task’ to manage. Thankfully my dear friend managed my phone for the day because I wasn’t really up for it..
Then comes the packing up which is always the worst part of playing host and finally bedtime. But before you get a second to spare...the realization of having to respond settles in..
Just like that its the next morning and you are alone! Which might seem like the dream to most but there is a real sense of being lonely the next day. It doesn't really help that most of your communication throughout the day takes place over a device, Thanking each and every person that has taken a minute out of their day to wish you a happy birthday. Birthdays are semi exhausting so mind me if I decide to hike the Camino or Explore Machu Picchu next year.
I will say that I am grateful for all the well wishes and everyone's presence in my life. .
The image above captures one of my favorite moments of the day. A short period where I stood among two friends, no phone insight with a beautiful view over Johannesburg. .

“The look on people’s faces
When they realize that we’re broken
Is sometimes more uncomfortable
Than the pain itself
We try so hard to create a life
That we love and that makes us happy
But we equally push away
Any feelings or situations
That challenge us and make us question
Situations that might bring
Or better yet
Might bring us closer
To that life we truly desire
During that pushing away
We float along
Or so we thought
Until one day
We look in the mirror
And try to remember where we got lost
How we strayed from our dreams
How we let ourselves become disconnected
From our true potential
Uncomfortable in our heavy feelings
We soak them up in
Alcohol and busyness
Thinking that if we numb and
We’ll somehow find the missing pieces
Only to end up being broken
Until one day
We finally realize
That the reflection in the mirror
That one that we somehow looked over
Is all we ever needed
All we ever really wanted
That acknowledgment of ourselves
And how much we love who we are
And how much we need to reflect
And focus on our potential
During those quiet moments
We begin to rebuild
We begin to become
The masterpiece we’ve always
Dreamed of” -AoH
This is Fidelia. She is 97 years old. She is the matriarch of her community and everyone loves and respects her. She has trouble seeing but she can still chop vegetables, and she cooks meals over an open fire for her great-grandkids. She said she is only able to persevere and provide for her family because of her faith in Jesus.

Throwback from our trip to the less touristy spots of Central Java. We learnt that the small town of Purbalingga has numerous waterfalls & other natural attraction.
One of those is this Tempuran/Dhuwur Waterfall which has 2 names because of its location which is at the border of 2 villages: Bumisari & Binangun.
