  • 🇩🇪🇦🇹🇨🇭 Longrun! T-Shirt Wetter ☀️ im Februar pünktlich zu meinem ersten langen Lauf 🏃‍♀️ in der Vorbereitung auf Boston 🤗! Ich hab ja manchmal ein wenig Probleme mit den langen Läufen. In meinem Kopf ist die Distanz so groß, dass ich Angst habe, es nicht zu schaffen und -selffulfilling prophecy- das passiert dann auch manchmal. Und diese irrationale Angst hab ich jetzt nach sechs gefinishten Marathons immernoch🙈. Gestern war es aber anders. Und falls mein Trainer das so geplant hat, ist er ein Genie😎! Ich sollte nämlich 26KM locker laufen, aber dabei jeden siebten Kilometer das Tempo anziehen. Also Kilometer 7, 14 und 21 schneller als Marathonpace. Somit hatte ich nur noch Schiss vor diesen drei Kilometern. Alles andere war Zwischengeplänkel☺️. Der Lauf war am Ende genauso, wie ich ihn mir vorher gewünscht hätte. Natürlich trotzdem anstrengend, aber mein Kopf hat mir diesmal keinen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht😁👍. Wie steht ihr zu langen Läufen? Lieblingsdisziplin oder eher Angstgegner? Naja, jetzt könnt ihr den Trick ja auch mal versuchen😉! ——————————————— 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 (...) Longrun! Yesterday I had my first longrun 🏃‍♀️ in preparation for the Boston Marathon. I‘m always a bit scared of those units. It’s such a big distance😲! And sometimes my mind plays tricks on me because of that fear and my muscles feel sore far too early! I finished six Marathons already and still got that problem🤷‍♀️. This time my coach had a genius idea though: I should run 26K, but increase my speed at kilometer 7, 14 and 21. So this time I was only scared about those three. Everything else was easygoing 😎. Still a challenging training but very successful in the end👍😁. How is it for you with longruns? The clock doesn’t stop for water breaks. 😉 Drank water and @nuunhydration from my belt and ate @Humagel on the run.   • Easy running for me today as my left leg is still not happy about that marathon pace run on Saturday. The weather was perfect at 37 degrees with no wind, and I had plenty of energy. But knowing that I have a very hard workout tomorrow I kept this run nice and easy. Now time to foam roll!

  • Running for me is an art and a science. 🏃🏽‍♀️👩🏽‍🎨👩🏽‍🔬 there’s a lot more to running than, uh running. . It’s a numbers game for sure. 👨🏼‍🏫 I often get asked, how do I know my marathon pace? I figure mine out by working backwards. I choose my goal time and figure out my pace from there. . I choose my goal by looking at all the factors. Am I healthy, any injuries, training weather, family vacations, etc. . If my goal is a 3:30 marathon, I simply google "Race Pace Chart". I look at the chart and see that I will need to be able to run an 8 minute mile for 26.2 miles...give or take. . Now that I have my Marathon Pace figured out, I can calculate my long run pace, Yasso/800s pace, 1/2 marathon pace, 10k pace and 5k pace...see picture above. . There's not rhyme or reason to this, it's just how I have always done it. . My goal time is based on my fitness level. I am not going to set myself up for failure by choosing a goal that's way too far out of my reach. And I’m not going to choose a goal time that’s too easy. . There are awesome sites now that you can order wristbands with your mile paces on them. It’s amazing!

  • ✨✨Book Review✨✨ Freedom’s Ring by Heidi Chiavaroli, Tyndale House Publishers, 2017 This was my monthly book club’s pick for February. _ “From the Boston Marathon bombing to the American Revolution and the Boston Massacre, past and present intertwine to create an unexpected destiny. The Boston Massacre sparked the American Revolution; the Boston Marathon bombing set a city on edge. Both became the proof of where true strength lies.” _ Freedom’s Ring follows the lives of two women who have been struck with multiple tragedies in their lives and have to find ways to overcome them and move forward. Liberty learns how to survive during the American Revolution and Annie has to find strength after being a part of the Boston Marathon bombing; one ring connects their lives across the span of time. _ This is the first novel that Heidi Chiavaroli has written. I was impressed by the quality of the storyline and the literature within the book for a first time author. She did a wonderful job going back and forth between the two timelines in history as well as tying the storylines together at the end. _ I enjoyed the history of the book. One of the classes I teach is on early American history and we are currently working our way towards the Revolution. The Boston Marathon bombing occurred in my lifetime and I can remember watching the news. This book delved into how it affected an individual and her family, which was impactful on me. _ Liberty had to choose between her country and her child or first love. She shows us the true love and strength of a mother. Annie has to work through her guilt when her family is hurt during the Boston Marathon bombing and she is not.   • When I applied to be a #HylandsHealer, I never thought I’d be selected. I figured they wanted better runners, professions that people have actually heard of (where my SLPs at?!?!), people with a better Instagram presence. But luckily, I was selected and then immediately felt like an imposter. Do they know that I’m not a serious person- that I’m just lucky that I get to crack jokes, blow bubbles and feed kids? Do these people have any idea that I love to run but barely train and have no idea how many marathons I’ve run?   • the life of a crazy ass runner....in october 2017 i read “80/20 training” closely followed by “racing weight” both by the same author, matt fitzgerald. in 2018 i ran pbs in every distance including 5km, 10km, 10M, half marathon & the marathon. i competed in five marathons in four countries and averaged 3:05. (my all time pb before 2018 was 3:07). all those races were relatively close together and i really didn’t get a break to reset and put together a full training schedule with everything i learnt from those books. for boston 2019 i will. twenty weeks of awesome training and super discipline with my diet. i am five kilos lighter than i was when i read “racing weight” 17 months ago. now 174pounds / 78kgs and i haven’t been this weight since my early 20’s. boston, i’m coming. i may now look like a greyhound, but i just hope i race like one too #lovemylife #asicsfrontrunner #chicagomarathon #runner #marathontraining #bostonmarathon #roadtoboston @ibxrun10 @fitzgerald.matt #racingweight

  • 4pm. Staring at my computer losing any sort of productivity. Have to be home by 5 to let the babysitter escape. Not much time for a run but the 3.5 miles on the monon was way more worth the time than another 45 minutes of unfocused work. I won’t lie- when I ran @262withdonna half marathon last weekend it had me thinking about how hard the @bostonmarathon really will be. I had moments of what the heck do I think I’m doing. But what I’m doing is running because I love to run. I’m enjoying the process. Boston doesn’t have to be easy and Boston doesn’t have to be fast. But it sure will be fun and I won’t hold lightly the freedom I have being there and will soak in the experience. I kissed the girls in Wellesley in 2014 when I ran Boston coming off a year of surgeries and I think I’ll have to again this year, cause that’s just one of the things you do when you run Boston for fun right?

Alyssa is down with pneumonia, so whole she slept Emma and I decided to watch some Marie Kondo. She got real sad when I told her that her room is too cluttered and we need to only keep the things we use and that bring us joy. So tonight we research a method together so it has time to settle in her brain. That usually makes it easier for her and gives her a framework from which to start. . And for me, it's on my list to declutter the entire house. I haven't done it in the four-plus years I've lived here, and it's time. Soon. . 505.1 miles of 902.1 miles done

  • the life of a crazy ass runner....the days continue to count down. so much energy goes into these big races and i love to look forward to the days & weeks & months of training and the dreams that come with standing on start lines and flying over finish lines. 12kms easy this morning. easy miles. never realised they are just as important as the hard ones.
