Starting a down week of training and reflecting back. I’m 42 and feeling the best I’ve felt in years. I am so glad I started using a coach for my training. Not only is it helping me physically, but it’s also mentally uplifting.
I tested my progress a little over a week ago at a 30k trail race. I made race plans the night before the race. My coach told me to almost redline for the first 6 miles. I was to then slow down for the next few miles up a steep ascent. Once I reached the top, I was to then again get to about redline and see what happens from there. I did exactly what was planned thinking if I blew up that it would be ok.
The plan worked and I finished 2nd place overall. I’d never stood on the podium at a trail race before. It was pretty exciting and I’m looking forward to see how far my training will take me. The big test will be in July at the Beaverhead Endurance Run 100k in Idaho. That’s my A race at this point and will plan another key race for the Fall as well.
Starting on senator highway, we ran to Watson lake on the Prescott Circle Trail with the @aravaiparunning Whiskey Basin training run.
Sorry for forgetting to post about this run previously, now that the weather is nicer, we will get back in the habit of posting upcoming runs.
Was great to catch up with those who made it out, was a great day for running.
Fun run with Aravaipa Racing Teammates from Gordon Hirabayashi to Hutch’s Pool and back after our team photo shoot! We stopped for some swimming, cliff jumping and beach sunning at Hutch’s Pool before the return run! Fun to get to know my teammates better and share a fun run!

Motion. Breaths. Footfalls. Flight. Pulse. I had a really good race. Everything found itself quickly and easily: my rhythm, my sacred space of clarity and purpose, intent, freedom, willpower, my deep sense of belonging in the universe. Sometimes I run for months without finding all of that. Podiums and course records aside (but those are cool too), I had one of the best, most soulful runs last weekend. I never felt the suffering that is such a necessary part of running, the emptiness that so often plagues my miles never came; it was just joy and strength and the powerful feeling of being Alive. For 9 hours and 29 minutes I was floating and flying and nothing else existed or mattered, it was just me, my body, mind, and spirit, churning together in cycles of footsteps, breaths, and heartbeats. That’s the dance. That’s the magic, the art I go seeking each time I go out there.

Work got in the way of #aravaiparunning tonight so the doggy had to do. She’s 16 and runs my pace.
